Description

-The USS Montana class of battleships was never built by the United States - It was only a plan
-In fact, some may argue that the Montana's were designed after the famed Iowa Class. However, they were actually designed at the same time.
-The Montana class was the more heavily armored and armed larger option compared to the Iowa's which were the less armed and armored but faster. In the end, the US chose the Iowa's.
-The Montana class were planned to be so wide that they would not fit through the panama canal (another reason for why they were not constructed).
-These ships would have had 4 turrets (2 bow and 2 aft) with 3 sixteen inch guns in each in comparison to the Iowa's 3 turrets (2 bow, 1 aft) with 3 sixteen inch guns in each
-The Montana class also had a thicker deck armor and stronger torpedo protection
-5 Montana class ships were planned and all of them were cancelled (Montana, Ohio, Maine, New Hampshire, and Louisiana)
-The main reason for the cancelling of this class was because the Iowa class were serving their purpose perfectly fine and they did not need an upgrade.
-The Iowa's also had a speed of 33 knots in comparison to the Montana's 28 knots
-The initial reason for the US to consider building these ships was the threat of the Yamato-class battleships by the Imperial Japanese Navy
-However, the power of Naval Aviation proved to the world that battleships were not longer as important as they used to be, resulting in the cancellation of these ships.
-This model kit has extremely high-quality injection molded parts with some photo-etch as well.
