1. Can I use synthetic automotive gear oils for my worm drive saw?
Automotive gear oils, whether or not it is synthetic or not, contain sulfur-based additives.
We do not recommend using automotive gears oils for your worm drive saw.
Sulfur-based additives will stain and corrode the yellow metals (copper and brass). This is not a big issue for your motor gears, because almost all motor gears are made of white metals such as stainless steel. However, worm gears in worm drive saws are made of brass and copper and these sulfur-based additives will
corrode these metals and eventually make your equipment fail
.

2. I am currently using a non-synthetic worm drive saw oil (for example, Skil 80111). Can I top add Lube-V Synthetic Worm Drive Saw Oil to my current oil?
Absolutely.
Lube-V Synthetic Worm Drive Saw Oil is
fully compatible
with non-synthetic oil like Skil 80111, as well as most synthetic oil like Mobil SHC 636
. It should be noted that it may not significantly increase the performance and service life if you only top treat a very small amount of Lube-V Synthetic Worm Drive Oil to a large reservoir of non-synthetic oil.
Therefore, to fully take advantage of the excellent performance and long service life of Lube-V synthetic oil, it is best to drain the used oil before putting any brand new Lube-V Synthetic Worm Drive Oil, but you do not need to flush the system during oil change, because of its full compatibility with non-synthetic worm drive oil.
3. What is difference between Lube-V Synthetic Industrial Gear Oil and other synthetic industrial gear oils?
Not all synthetic oils are equal. This is especially true in USA
.
Over 10 years ago, ExxonMobil lost a lawsuit against BP Castrol, which allowed BP and so other companies to claim highly refined petroleum oil (Group III oil) as “synthetic oil”. (Simply google “Mobil 1 Castrol synthetic lawsuit” for more details.)
However, all the oil professionals like our Lube-V experts know and can prove that the performance of highly refined Group III petroleum oils cannot compete with true synthetic oils.
