Description
For sale isa biscuit or unglazed porcelain figurine made most likely by Mennecy in the 18th century . It is a figurine of a lady and gentleman on a nice rock work base. He is playing the bagpipe and she a hurdy gurdy. Very typical 18th century French figurine in general and very well modeled. Lots of detail to the figures and base with some fun grasses to the top. Typical simple ring base to the bottom. The figure is in great condition and displays superbly but upon closer inspection one finds that the hurdy gurdy instrument has been off and reglued. I would not have even seen it if it wasn't for the handle in her left hand not attaching to the instrument. The other side would have had a little point which is also gone and was painted over to hide it. Really hard to spot this! Tiny chip to the underside base edge. Other than that it is in perfect condition. The figurine is not marked underneath but I have had similar marked examples over the years. The piece is 5.75 inches tall, 4.125 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep.
